The site is the direct catchment area of the Tai Tam Reservoirs. The area is about 1243.2 hectares.

The site provides favourable habitats for animal and bird life.
The ravines contains vegtation which is floristically rich. Rare and precious plants recorded include Artocarpus hypargyreus (白桂木), Castanopsis concinna (華南錐), Dysoxylum hongkongense (香港樫木), Iris speculatrix (小花鳶尾), Lysimachia alpestris (香港過路黃), Paris polyphylla var. chinensis (華重樓), Platycondon grandiflorus (桔梗), Sarocococca longipetiolata (長柄野扇花).
