石牛洲 / Shek Ngau Chau

位於香港新界東北部,大鵬灣的一群石洲,石牛洲的面積約為0.92公頃。島上建有一些海事建築物包括一個碼頭,一層樓的小屋,通往島頂的腳步和一個燈塔。

Shek Ngau Chau (石牛洲) which comprises a group of rocky islands is locted at Mirs Bay in the Northeastern waters of Hong Kong. The total area of Shek Ngau Chau (the island) is about 0.92 ha. Buildings on the Island, including a pier, a one-story hut, a footstep to the peak of the Island and a light beacon, are the aids to navigation of Marine Department.

石牛洲具有燕鷗繁殖的典型地理特徵,是香港最重要的燕鷗繁殖地。
在香港,燕鷗的繁殖季節從5月到8月底,燕鷗在5月初到達島上,在5月下旬或6月初開始產生蛋。在6月中旬至下旬出生的雛鳥,會在7月底至8月中旬長出飛羽,並於8月中下旬離巢。
燕鷗通常會將在岩石上丶灌木下或島上岩石間的裂隙中生蛋。石牛洲經常見的三種燕鷗分別是:褐翅燕鷗丶黑枕燕鷗和粉紅色燕鷗。

Shek Ngau Chau has typical geographical feature for tern's breeding and it is the most important breeding ground for terns in Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, the breeding season of terns begins from May to end of August that terns arrive on the Island in early May, begin egg laying in late May or early June, have downy chicks in mid to late June which fledge in late July to mid August, and depart in mid to late August. Terns lay their eggs everywhere on the rock, under the shrubs, or in the cleft between rocks on the Island.
Shek Ngau Chau regularly supports three species of terns : Bridled Tern Sterna anaethetus (褐翅燕鷗), Black-naped Tern Sterna sumatrana (黑枕燕鷗) and Roseate Tern Sterna dougallii (粉紅燕鷗) for their breeding and summer visit.

所有於香港山現的燕鷗受到《野生動物保護條例》(第170章)的保護。
任何島上的開發丶建設或維護工程;或於島上露營丶燒烤丶垂釣等康樂活動都可能對燕鷗的繁殖造成干擾。
在燕鷗的繁殖季節(即五月至八月),更應避免干擾燕鷗。

All terns are protected under the Wild Animals Protection Oridance, Cap. 170, in Hong Kong. However human activities, including i) potential construction/maintenance works, and development on the Island and ii) human activities such as campingm, barbecue, angling on the Island may cause disturbance to the tern's breeding. Human disturbance should be avoided or minimized on the Island during the breeding season of terns (i.e. May to August).
