The native woodland harbours a population of an endemic shrub Croton hancei Benth. (Hong Kong Croton), which is the only known surviving population in the world.

Occassional hill fire is a threat to the existing Hong Kong Croton at Tsing Yi. Owing to the small population of the species present at the site, they are vulnerable to destruction if the scientific value of the site is not highlighted.
